Description:
Low Hums are from Seattle Washington and began playing out in 2009. "I had been touring a lot, the US and especially Europe as a member of Earth and also with Marissa Nadler and I wanted to start a band when the touring cycle was over" - Sanoj Fueled on a steady diet of amphetaminized Velvet Underground, Funkadelic, Jimi Hendrix, Can, Sun Ra, Beefheart, Blue Cheer. Low Hums employ a twin guitar tapestry and a fiery rhythm section. "The name Low Hums is from a dream, and I wrote down "low howls" in my notebook. Somehow that became Low Hums. It was the sound of wolves howling at night." - Sanoj While there were other versions of the band that date back to 2009, the current lineup of Sanoj Sniksah, Crystal Powwwers, Rolly Fingers, and Miles "Baja" Panto is by far the finest yet. Sanoj and Panto first met years ago while their former bands shared a common rehearsal space. After a couple of floods and a fire, a new rehearsal space was found that came complete with a available drummer. Rolly Fingers was in. Lastly Sanoj and Rolly recruited Crystal Powwwers while Baja Panto was in Old Mexico. Upon his return to the north, the lineup was complete. Night Magic Wine was recorded in Seattle by Jack Endino, who Sanoj had known for many years. An approachable guy, Jack is well know for having recorded bands such as Nirvana, Screaming Trees, TAD, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Murder City Devils, and is also holder of a Latin Grammy. We decided to ask Jack to record and produce this record for a couple reasons. He likes guitars and drums and all things rock and roll. This batch of songs really seemed to be a good fit for him. Jack is also penchant for letting a band find their sound organically. He didn't let us get too hung up on the little details and told us to leave the mistakes in. We actually ended up mostly with first or second takes on all the basics. Even when we did do more, we ended up with the earlier versions. Night Magic Wine is a lyric from US101. It's basically about being in a blissful yet aware altered state of mind. Shine Rock bonus tracks were recorded in a old church turned recording studio in the small fishing town of Anacortes Washington, home of Karl Blau and Mt Eerie. "It's a big echo-y room with not a computer in sight.. all analog" Our buddy Randall Dunn, mixed and produced it. Randall has done a lot of work with Earth, Sunn 0)), Chelsea Wolfe, Black Mountain. It was originally a EP on its own. Kozmik suggested we add it to Night Magic Wine and we thought that was a great idea. One reviewer, after hearing the new single "Too Early Too Tell" described the bands sound as "psychedelic, swagger and southern glam!" "They were molten and melting down at all times - with twin-guitar blowtorch jams inflected" "This sounds like Lou Reed in the best way" - Jack Endino (of Too Early To Tell) Low Hums have played sweaty packed college parties, high desert roadhouses, regional festivals, dive bars, all ages bakeries turned into venues, beaches, generator parties and everything else in between, all while touring the West Coast & Southwest. Hopefully we can finally start coming to EUROPE!
