Reinette l'Oranaise, was born in Tiaret (Algeria) in 1915. Blind at the age of two, she was able to learn the entire repertoire of Arab-Andalusian music, initiated by the Master Messaoud Medioni, known as Saoud l'Oranais, deported to Sobibor in 1943, in spite of the difficulties faced by women at the time and thanks to her steely determination. She became the great Voice, promised to eternity of the Arabo-Andalusian and Judeo-Arabic repertoire: love poems brought back by the Jews and Arabs in North Africa, fleeing Granada, the last Muslim Kingdom of Andalusia in 1492.
