2019 Reissue of the classic WHO album!
How do you ever follow up Tommy and then Who's Next? Quadrophenia is absolutely The Who's most ambitious album. It's another rock opera, this time about a thoroughly pathetic character, who does get a bit of sympathy for being lost in a British class system and economy that utterly has no room or use for him. Music-wise, there is some top notch playing here, and Daltry's vocals are in fine form. Quadrophenia feels like it paved the way for Pink Floyd's The Wall, which has a similar doomy feeling about a character who is almost wholly unlikable, but ultimately sympathetic.
