Death was an African American hard rock / proto-punk band formed by the brothers Bobby, David and Dannis Hackney in Detroit, Michigan in 1971. The Hackneys were first influenced by soul and funk music but it all changed when they saw Iggy and the Stooges.

Spiritual-Mental-Physical is a collection of the original reel-to-reel wild early Death demos, circa 1974-76, presenting the three young Hackney brothers consolidating their powers as they embark on a trip into pure rock & roll music. Here we find Death by transistor radio, with a tinny-yet furious sound representing the 1970s environment. This is an inside look at Death's early days, one that the fans of the group & fans of punk rock (and, indeed, rock of all kinds) are sure to enjoy for the rest of time.
